The Hemidrive-M

The Wijit HemiDrive-M is a unique one-armed, foot-steerable manual wheelchair accessory, making it possible for stroke victims and hemiplegics to have a healthy alternative to a power wheelchair. It is ideal for rehabilitation, as well as for helping people to maintain their all-important health — as opposed to a sedintary lifestyle a power chair often encourages.

The Wijit HemiDrive-M employs the power and braking of our regular Wijit Wheelchair Driving and Braking System (DBS) on one side, together with our NSF foot-steerable footrest system. This combination allows the user to assist controlling their wheelchair, by using their foot for steering (which provides directional control to the caster wheel), together with the Wijit lever arm, that provides both the pushing power and the braking force.

For rehabilitation and for helping improve health, the Wijit HemiDrive-M keeps its user's muscles active, by inducing range of motion, and providing all-important cardiovascular activity. Not only that, but it keeps its user's minds active, while coordinating movement and empowering an important sense of independence.

The power wheelchair, while solving a mobility problem for stroke victims and hemiplegics, also slowly allows for a continuing loss of muscle strength, coordination, range of motion, and cardiovascular deterioration. The Wijit HemiDrive-M is a potential help to all of these problems.
